Join us in Kerry for European Wool Day Conference 2026.
Where wool experts & enthusiasts gather for insights & potential collaborations.
The aim of the European Wool Day organised by the European Wool Exchange (EWE) Foundation is to celebrate wool and to raise awareness of the European wool generated each year. The day acts as a space for exchange of experiences of different wool projects and to learn from one another in Europe.
European Wool Day provides an opportunity for people to exchange knowledge and skills, and for the general public to learn about European wool, fibre crafts and the use of therapeutic knitting to improve health and wellbeing. Linked local events provide hands-on experience in a range of projects.

General concept of the European Wool Day
The EWE Foundation intends to highlight the importance of this unique material and show the versatile modes of its use in different sectors in order to reinforce the great importance that wool deserves in a context of circular economy. Wool has positive characteristics in ecological terms, serving the real needs of the planet.
EWE Foundation would like to contribute to the improvement of its distribution and use, particularly for health and well-being. EWE Foundation is dedicated to spreading the world of therapeutic knitting for improved health and wellbeing on a personal and social level.
“a hug from nature”
In short, wool is a unique material, a gift from nature that has been of great importance in the past and it has a part to play in the future.
The European Wool Day is hosted by different European countries each year and it gives them a special occasion to introduce their unique wool situation to the rest of Europe and to put wool in the spotlight in their country that given year. They may organise a National Wool Day around the European Wool Day for their residents.
It is encouraged that other countries organise their National Wool Days around the European Wool Day and connect to the event online and make the European Wool Day part of their event.
The focus of each year means that there is a dedicated part to the topic theme, however other areas are also covered at the course of the event. There is always a section dedicated to therapeutic knitting for improving health and wellbeing.
European Wool Exchange Foundation’s (EWE) mission is to encourage and facilitate the use of European Wool for fibre craft activities such as therapeutic knitting in health, education and social care. Our aim is to promote the exchange of information, knowledge and skills.
EWE is the bridge between wool breeders, processors and end users, with a particular focus on using wool to improve wellbeing.
Establishing, and growing a circular economy for wool, connects end users back to the sheep, farmers and origins of the products they enjoy.
